EMILY KAM KNGWARRAY
x NGA

With our latest partnership with the National Gallery of Australia, we are honoured to have produced a merchandise collection for the NGA’s Major summer exhibition: Emily Kam Kngwarray.
Born in Alhalkere, Utopia Station, Northern Territory. Emily Kam Kngwarray became Australia’s most significant First Nations female artist.

Emily Kam Kngwarray retrospective draws references from the Utopian land and Anmatyerr ceremonies - Awely - which refers to women’s ceremonies and the painting of designs on a woman’s body. Awely makes connections with the fertility of the land and a celebration of the food it provides. It is performed by Aboriginal women from the Utopia region to recall their ancestors, to show respect for their country and to demonstrate their responsibility for the wellbeing of their community.

Her extensive body of work exhibited at the NGA includes paintings, paper work and textiles. Some of which have never-been-seen and international and national collections. We highlight three important artworks titled ‘Yam awely, 1994’, ‘Ntang Dreaming, 1984 ’ and ‘ not titled, 1994’ across the merchandise range that we produced for the NGA.

The Merchandise Range includes:

  • Tote Bags

  • Wide Brimmed Hat

  • Cap

  • Cushions

  • Notebooks

  • Clutter Tray

  • Lenticular Postcard

  • Jigsaw Puzzle

  • Linen Teatowels

  • Compact Bag

Based on our Adventure Hat we customised the wide-brimmed hat with a digital printing of "Untitled“ artwork. Both hats, including the 6 panel cap are produced from 100% cotton.

The small bag was designed for the exhibition based on a compact bag for phone with an adjustable shoulder strap, zipper closure and an external slip pocket for quick accessible items

We produced two digitally printed 14oz cotton tote bags, featuring details of artworks of ‘Yam Awely, 1995’ and ‘Not Titled, 1994’.
The tote bag style is based off our ByContain ‘Goods’ design and features an internal slip pocket.

Featuring one of our newest product ranges we included clutter trays made from moulded aluminium. Perfect for keys, cakes and anything in between.

Featuring artworks “Yam awely, 1995” and “not titled, 1994”.

Leather Hardcover Notebooks were produced from genuine leather with screenprinted artwork “not titled, 1994”. Featuring blank pages, ribbon, elastic and back storage envelope.

1000 piece jigsaw puzzle features a detail of artwork Yam Awely, 1995 sized at 70cm x 50cm.

Presented in a sturdy box, and puzzle pieces are housed in a reusable NGA cotton zipper pouch.

100% French linen tea towels with digitally printed artwork from Emily Kam Kngwarray. Both tea towels include tags with artist credits.

To compliment Emily Kam Kngwarray’s body of work we produced a range of textile products — 100% linen cushions and tea towels that pay homage to her earlier batik and textiles work.

We produced both rectangle and square two cushions, all featuring a complimentary printed piping.

Yam awely, 1995’ is a 5-metre wide painting, the cushion utilises the full wrap of the artwork both front and back on the rectangular cushion.

Artworks ‘Ntang Dreaming, 1989’ and ‘Not titled, 1994’ are produced as a 45x45cm square cushion.
